Decathlon Bike Return Policy (What´s Covered + More)

Decathlon Bike Return Policy

Choosing a bike is never an easy decision and sometimes you find it’s not quite the right fit – particularly if you’re shopping for somebody else.

You want to know that you can get a refund or an exchange when you need one, so you might be wondering, what is the Decathlon bike return policy?

At Decathlon, you have 90 days to return a bicycle – unused and in as-new condition. Bikes should be disassembled and repackaged, and you will be responsible for shipping costs.

Read ahead to find out exactly what’s covered by this policy and more!

What Is Decathlon?

Before we get into everything that you need to know about returning a bike that you might purchase from them, we should first understand who Decathlon are and what they do.

Decathlon is a French retailer that specializes in sporting goods, and they are one of the most trusted names in the industry. In fact, they are now the largest retailer of their kind with more than 1,600 stores operating in 60 different countries.

The company was founded in 1976 in Lille, France, by Michel Leclercq and it was only a decade before it expanded its scope to the international market.

They now employ nearly 100,000 people from 80 different nationalities, and you can find Decathlon stores in nearly 1,000 cities around the world

In the United States, Decathlon is actually closing its retail locations and focusing more on online sales through their website.

What Is The Decathlon Return Policy?

When it comes to sporting goods, you often expect returns policies to be pretty limited – if they exist at all.

At Decathlon, however, you actually get a pretty generous amount of time to send back any purchases that you made, and a surprising number of their items are covered.

You have 90 days to return products purchased from Decathlon if you are looking for a replacement or a refund.

In comparison to a lot of other big brands in the industry, this is quite a long returns window, and it’s particularly helpful when you are shopping around the holidays.

With that being said, there are some conditions that you will need to meet if you want your item to be eligible.

What Are The Conditions Of The Decathlon Return Policy?

To receive a refund or an exchange, you need to make sure that:

  • The purchase was made less than 90 days ago.
  • The item is unused and in new condition.
  • All tags are still attached to the item.
  • The item is in its original packaging.

While these rules can feel a little restrictive, it is pretty much what you would expect from any returns policy for a large company.

Just make sure that you do not throw away any of the tags or packaging until you are sure that you are happy with your bike!

Can You Return Bikes To Decathlon?

There are obviously some exceptions to the return policy at Decathlon, but you might be surprised to find that bicycles are completely covered.

In fact, most large sporting equipment all comes under the same 90-day return policy at Decathlon, unless it is otherwise specified when you actually make your purchase.

What Is Covered By The Decathlon Bike Return Policy?

While the Decathlon return policy does cover bikes, there are some exceptions that you should be aware of.

Your bike will not be eligible for a refund or a replacement if:

  • It was purchased as a clearance or final sale.
  • It has been used.
  • It is dirty.
  • It has been damaged due to improper handling/use.

Additionally, there are some items that are not covered by the Decathlon returns policy at all.

These include safety and lifesaving equipment – like helmets, life jackets, and climbing gear – because, even if the item is unused, it can’t be verified that it still meets safety standards.

You also cannot return gift cards, which is a pretty universal exception at any retailer.

How Much Does It Cost To Return A Bike At Decathlon?

Although you can expect to get most of your money back when you return a bike to Decathlon, there will be a couple of things that get taken off your refund.

Most large items, which includes bicycles, do not qualify for a free return – unless it is explicitly stated on the product page. Any shipping costs will be deducted from your final refund. You will also be charged a flat $4.99 return rate for any non-apparel items that you send back.

Decathlon generally considers a package to be “oversize” if it weighs more than 20lbs or is longer than 5 feet.

Considering the high costs of returning large items this can be a little expensive, but it’s pretty understandable from Decathlon’s perspective.

How Do You Return Bikes To Decathlon?

So, if you do have a bike that you want to return to Decathlon, how do you go about it?

You can return your item to any Decathlon store, but you might find it hard to get to one.

There are currently very few Decathlon retail locations in North America, and (as of early 2022) the company has plans to close down its physical USA stores to focus on online sales.

Fortunately, you can still mail your returns using their online returns portal. To return your bike to Decathlon:

  1. Visit the Online Returns page.
  2. Enter your order number and personal details to find your order.
  3. Follow the instructions from the Decathlon team. You will receive a return label (for bikes, the cost of this will be deducted from your refund).
  4. Disassemble and repackage your bike as it was received – in its Decathlon box.
  5. Include the return packing slip, contact details, and proof of purchase.
  6. Securely tape the package and affix the shipping label.
  7. Drop off your package at a shipping location.

If you are not instructed to use a specific carrier by the Decathlon team when you get in touch, then you should choose one that offers tracking and insurance. Decathlon will not cover items lost or damaged in transit.

The return address for Decathlon is: DECATHLON, 7240 Edgewater Dr, OAKLAND, CA 94621, USA.
